World Trust's next community conversation and fundraiser "A 21st Century Conversation about Race" will be held on Friday, July 23rd at award-winning venue Uptown Body and Fender in Oakland, Ca.  Local artist and social justice educator August Mears is hosting the public event with friends.

After seeing Shakti Butler facilitate a conversation about race last month using clips from World Trust's new film, Ms. Mears was inspired to organize the event, saying, ""Simply by virtue of living in these times, in this society, we have all been deeply conditioned by a damaged culture. Now, our task for recovery is twofold:  first we need to examine, understand and begin to unlearn the programming to which we have been subjected.  With a deeper understanding of the dynamics at play, we can take our part in undoing the racism embedded in the structures of the policies, laws and institutions governing our daily lives.  This is a terrifically large undertaking and we need powerful tools to help us along the way.  Shakti’s films are just such powerful tools - making this work accessible and incredibly uplifting.  We hope the community turns out in force for this event."
